Welcome to my website for Gay Ostomists and thank you for coming back so often and you'll have noticed how many more ostomates have registered and more and more are adding their picture which shows that you are building your own confidence about being one of us - that's a very positive thing for others who have yet to 'come out' again!! We have a letters page with lots of really good advice for the LGBT community and thanks to all of you who have taken the time to write in but we could do with some more of your stories or comments. If you have any experiences you would like to share please let me know - with gay guys, lesbians and bisexuals from 15 to 90 on the Website I think there is someone to interest most of our visitors. A few months ago I added a 'Health' page so take a look as this may be of interest to you, from emails I get I know that in some countries around the world this information is not easily available and I really hope you find it useful. Although any ostomist is very welcome to view this site - gay, bi, transgender or just 'gay friendly', I'm sure you will find it both interesting and informative. The aim of this website is to provide you with news about events, products, health information in a friendly format and the chance to email each other and possibly meet up with the hope that life can be improved for many of us who often feel very isolated at times. So how did it happen to me? Well I had no idea what was in store for me when I collapsed at work in 1997 and was rushed to hospital where the surgeon told me that I needed an immediate operation for a total colectomy. I was told without surgery there was no chance of me living more than just a few more hours and when they gave me a private room to telephone my family for as long as I wanted I realised just how bad it was and after just a few minutes they arrived with the Theatre trolley. Following a 5 hour operation I was given a temporary ileostomy which was eventually made permanent in 2006 (sadly a 'reversal' failed after a year) and while I was in hospital again I was talking to my stoma nurses about how I could not find any support sites on the Internet for gay ostomists, they suggested that I set up one myself - so I spent my time learning how to do this while I was recovering and now I'm getting lots of really positive feedback from ostomates all over the world. I always welcome
emails, letters, stories or comments from you. If you would like to meet
